The Best way to SUV Camping
Have you ever slept your car? Ever thought about doing it just for fun? I know that it may seem a little crazy but we did it and fell in love with it! SUV Camping is a great way to camp and we want to share with you the best way to do it! People always ask us how we did it, so we wanted to share how we would suv camp with you all!
So how did we discover suv camping you ask? Well we sort of stumbled across it on Youtube while looking at camping videos, people doing van life and we came across suv camping. We realized that we had never been camping together as a couple and we thought we’d give it a try since suv camping looked fun so we planned our first trip to Joshua Tree, California which wasn’t too far from home and we both had never been to Joshua Tree.
Okay now let’s get to planning! We planned which weekend we wanted to go, where we wanted to go, what the weather was going to be like and what activities we might do when we’re there. We figured out what clothes to bring and how long it will take to get there so we know what time to leave our house.
I suggest that you check out the website or area that you want to go to and see if there are campsites that you want to book or that have a first come first serve option or you can always look into boondocking. Make sure to check if there is a fee, what that fee is or if it is free, usually only boon docking is free. Also check if there are any bathrooms, water, electricity, etc. so you know more or less what to bring for your trip.
When we went on our first trip we were able to find about 4 campgrounds in Joshua Tree that were a first come first serve basis; Hidden Valley (where we stayed), Belle, White Tank, and Ryan Campground- if you ever want to stop by Joshua Tree. We arrived early that morning at about 5am to try and get a spot in any of the camp spots, it took us two hours but we found a perfect spot. Make sure to give yourself ample amount of time to make sure that you are able to get a spot if you are boon docking or going to a first come first serve campsite. Something to always keep in mind is to always have a backup plan, have a second location that you may be interested in staying at just in case something doesn’t work out. there are a few apps that you can look at to find boon docking spots but all of that information will be in another blog.
Something that we quickly learned is that you should pack lightly and efficiently. When you are sleeping in the trunk of your car you need to make sure that everything you bring is compact and able to fit into the front seats so that you’re able to sleep in the back
